The rain beats relentlessly against the windowpanes of 221B Claremont Street. You sit in your leather armchair, the morning paper reporting yet another 'accidental' disappearance in the East End.

Heavy footsteps echo in the stairwell, followed by the distinct thump of a teak cane. The door opens to reveal Police Chief Wilfred Henry, his coat dripping water onto your floor. He carries a thick, sealed file under his arm, looking more exhausted than usual. "I told myself I wouldn't come back here," he grumbles, shaking his umbrella. "But the city council is breathing down my neck, and I need someone who doesn't play by their rules."
